End-of-year cybersecurity checklist - Safe O'Clock

End-of-year cybersecurity checklist

December 16, 2022

On the eve of the new year, everyone strives to complete their tasks. Today we invite you to have a look at your current cybersecurity issues and finally complete a number of tasks, if you have not had time to do them in a while. Meet the cybersecurity checklist of the things you need to finish by the end of the year.

Update your password policy

Finally, it’s time to think about password security policy. Remember that default as well as too simple passwords can jeopardize the security of not only a particular employee, but the entire organization. Make December the starting point when you finally implement complex passwords in your organization and also start updating them several times a year – up to four times in general is recommended.

Cybersecurity training

Conduct cybersecurity training for your employees if you have not already done so. Organize a training where your employees will be taught the basics of cybersecurity and the principles of working with the SAP system, necessary to achieve maximum system security.

Regular cybersecurity trainings are useful even if your employees have already taken part in them. The tricks of hackers are becoming more complex – for example, social engineering attacks are regularly improved, for which you need to be prepared. In addition, companies can update their SAP systems, purchase new products, which may have their own characteristics and weaknesses that you need to know if you work with them.

Update antivirus systems

Even though you are probably tired of hearing about it, but yes, antivirus programs do work, and now is the time to update or (if you still haven’t got a quality antivirus) – install an antivirus. For the best security, you must make sure that your antiviruses work on all computers in your organization, constantly scanning both the computer and all connected devices, because no matter how well your staff is trained, the risk of malware still remains.

Switch to a secure file sharing solution

It’s not the right time to switch to a secure file sharing service, if you haven’t already done so. We must not forget that secure file sharing should occur even among employees of the same organization. It is very important that the files are hidden from unauthorized users and only accessible to employees of the organization.

Come up with data breach response plan

Even the most well-protected organizations can never be 100% sure that they are completely secure, so you should always be on the lookout and have a plan for a rainy day. What we mean is that if you don’t already have a protocol to follow in the event of an attack, now, at the end of the year, is the time to work on it to enter 2023 fully armed. In essence, a data breach response plan serves to organize and simplify the company’s actions in the event of an attack. Remember that such a plan also needs to be updated regularly based on what updates are happening in your systems.
